Here’s how we create the list: We look at revenue or operating budget and other variables, including number of full-time employees in the state, workplace and management diversity, and innovative projects. We then rank organizations according to our own formula. We consider both for-profit and nonprofit organizations. This is the 16th year that The Commonwealth Institute — a local nonprofit that supports female business leaders — has created the list, and the fifth year that the Globe Magazine has partnered with the group.
TCI, devoted to helping to boost the success of businesswomen in Massachusetts, celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2017. The institute launched its Top 100 Women-Led Businesses in Massachusetts awards in 2000. Note the growth of the top 100 companies since then:
